Winemaker – Craig Gasson

The Vines are all farmed Organically

Owner, Viticulturist and Winemaker Craig Gasson began his career in the wine industry in 1995, heading to Australia in search of wine industry experience and education, graduating from the University of Adelaide in 2001 with a degree in Viticulture and Oenology.

Whilst studying, Craig immersed himself in the Australian viticulture industry, working in top Australian wine regions including McLaren Vale, Clare Valley and the Yarra Valley, gaining further insight into the wine industry.

After graduation Craig was appointed Vineyard Manager/Viticulturist for the new wine enterprise that is Lamont Wines in Central Otago under the ownership of the McLachlan family. Craig, along with the McLachlan’s, then set about establishing Lamont as premium member of the Central Otago wine family creating a great vineyard and crafting wines of superb quality.

The inaugural vintage was in 2003 and Lamont now has 14 vintages of wine created with Craig in his 21st year in the wine industry. In 2012 Craig and wife Angela took over the ownership of Lamont, pursuing a dream to have their own wine label.

The vineyard, situated in the Bendigo sub region of Central Otago is 4.5 hectares over the 3 varietals, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Riesling producing 1000 cases annually. The vineyard was extensively soil mapped (a first in Central Otago) to best match the vines and rootstocks to soil types which achieves better balance of growth throughout the vineyard. The vineyard has full Bio-Gro organic certification after transitioning to organics in 2009.
