Mistletoe is a small family owned vineyard and winery that was established by Ken & Gwen Sloan in 1989. The site was once Mistletoe Lane and had become extremely run down and neglected when the Sloan’s took over the land. They quickly set about ripping up the old derelict vineyard and replanting the home plot to Semillon, Chardonnay, Shiraz and Muscat. Within 6 years, Mistletoe Wines were starting to collect recognition not to mention trophies at local and interstate wine shows. Mainly focusing on traditional Hunter Valley varietals, Semillon, Chardonnay and Shiraz, Mistletoe also source long term contracted Shiraz and Viognier fruit from a trusted grower friend in the Hilltops Region of NSW. There is a tight Shiraz Viognier, as well as the “freakish” Noble Viognier available in small quantities.

Winemaker Scott Stephens has a stellar CV, and brings with him a wealth of local knowledge from long stints at McWilliams Mount Pleasant and Tower Estate, and continues to make benchmark wines in the region with Mistletoe. Ken and Gwen’s family also are active in the business with son Rob being in the vineyard while daughter Cass is involved in the sales and administration side of things.

The long term goal of Mistletoe has always been to have a core range of the 3 big Hunter Varieties and building a legacy for future generations. The winery has again been awarded 5 red stars in James Halliday.
