Following a long winemaking tradition, inherited from generation to generation, is this family winery founded in 1940 by by grandfather Amador Escudero Perez after the Spanish Civil War, when he bought a winery located in Alfaro in The Rioja. But, in fact, the origin of winemaking in the family goes back even farther, when the great grandfather Juan Escudero was cultivating vineyards and making wine in 1850, in the nearby village of Grávalos. In 1994, Amador Escudero Abad, created the brand ‘Ilurce’, bringing the family suddenly back into the wine industry.

The Ilurce Winery and Vineyards combines the union of vines, the family and the new winery to result in wines that transmit the passion of a family whose life, efforts and knowledge revolve around premium wine production.

The contributions have shown year after year, that with serious application to the daily work shared by the whole family, great results follow. The doors of the winery and vineyards are open to all those who want to “feel the wine”.

Viticulture is indisputably the fundamental pillar in the winery. In the preparation of the wines the grapes come from their plots located on the slopes of Monte Yerga, a privileged place located at more than 600 metres above sea level. The soil is a mix of limestone and stones, the rigors of winter and the hot summers are essential to produce excellent grapes here. In its 60 hectares of vineyard, there is Old Garnacha vines, with the hand selected clones of Tempranillo and Graciano.
